The Cape Cod 767 Luxury Dayboat: Crossing the Atlantic

Exporting our exceptional dayboats to new horizons often inspires admiration, but also a great deal of curiosity. Recently, many enthusiasts of our ROSEWEST shipyard have asked us this fascinating question: how does the Cape Cod 767 cross the Atlantic to reach its American waters? For a small entity, this logistical challenge requires meticulous preparation, perfectly matching the high standards of craftsmanship we put into building our sailboats. Let’s dive into the details of this transoceanic adventure together.
Many enthusiasts like to imagine our marine craftsmen at the helm, sails billowing in the trade winds. However, the reality of exporting is quite different. The team was not aboard the sailboat to cross the Atlantic under its own power, as the boat is not certified for this: it is a splendid coastal cruising dayboat. The team would have actually loved to take the time to make the crossing aboard the cargo ship, but other Cape Cods are waiting to be delivered! We entrusted the mission to a specialized shipping company, which took over to ensure CANARY safely crossed the Atlantic to Baltimore.
To make this export a success, we leave absolutely no detail to chance. The Cape Cod was designed to be generous from its inception, without restricting itself to the size of a shipping container, which doesn’t stop it from sailing to any destination!
For the comfort and safety of the boat, we manufacture a custom cradle on which the sailboat was placed and securely lashed, after being meticulously protected by Xavier Lescarret, our road transport expert specializing in boat transport at TEC 33. This cradle will be carefully kept by the owner in the Hamptons to serve as a support during winter storage.
The boat is then loaded flat on the deck of a cargo ship dedicated to transporting other exceptional boats. The mechanics of these giants of the sea are fascinating: these cargo ships submerge by ballasting to allow the largest vessels to enter and position themselves on their cradles, then they de-ballast to return to their normal waterline. They act somewhat like a mobile lock. The daysailer thus embarks on a majestic transoceanic journey, initially sailing toward the major port of Baltimore.
Once it arrives on American soil in Baltimore and clears customs, the sailboat is taken over by a highly qualified land transporter. It is then transported with the utmost care to its final destination, joining the prestigious waters of Sag Harbor in the Hamptons. It is thanks to this chain of trust and expertise that our Cape Cod 767 Lounge dayboat was able to cross the Atlantic in perfect security and be delivered, ready to be launched.
It is essential to recall the deep DNA of our creations to understand these logistical choices. The Cape Cod is above all a splendid daysailer. It was specifically designed to combine elegance on the water, gliding performance solo (or with a crew), and absolute comfort for your outings. While the question of whether we made the crossing with the boat made us smile, it seems crazy to us to imagine that such a vessel could cross the Atlantic on its own! It belongs to the dayboat category: it is a luxury coastal cruising boat, intended for refined sailing, perfect for the Hamptons.
We are very far from the “ministes,” those fantastic female and male competitors who race across the Atlantic on a 6.50-meter (21-foot) boat! Incidentally, we’d like to take this opportunity to salute Charlie Dalin, who finished 2nd in the overall ranking for production boats in the 2009 Mini Transat. For his one and only participation, he completed the crossing between La Rochelle and Bahia in just over 27 days. Beautiful proof of the exceptional man he is. Hats off once again for the dreams you made us live…
The program for our dayboats is entirely different. Our captains sail in a relaxed “family man” mode, or as energetic parents… and all share sailing dreams… Eddie in the US dreamed of having a Cape Cod right below his house in the Hamptons… He did it… and it was another dream for us to accompany him in manufacturing his unique boat, all the way to launching it and sharing sailing days for a careful handover…
To each their own dreams…
In Summary: The Art of Exporting When a Cape Cod Crosses the Atlantic
In conclusion, shipping a ROSEWEST sailboat overseas relies on rigorous and fully secure logistical management. The boat does not sail alone through storms; it is transported flat on the deck of adapted cargo ships, thus respecting its true calling as a luxury dayboat. You now know exactly how a Cape Cod crosses the Atlantic to go enhance the coasts of the American continent.
Do you dream of seeing one of our sailboats cutting through the waves in your area, whether in France or internationally? Don’t hesitate to contact the ROSEWEST shipyard to discuss your project and work together to design the vessel that suits you.
