The Cape Cod is not lacking in allure and clearly shows its vocation as a fast sailing boat. With its large cockpit all in ellipse to the comfort more than certain, it is overhung by a very slender modern rigging. Because the Cape Cod, under its traditional exteriors, is a unit of the twentieth century, a false classic. While the bow of the stern, the exotic wooden lattice of the deck and this line at sea are reminiscent of the old canoes, the straight bow and the marconi rigging betray the modernity of the design by Clément Salzes who signed this beautiful unit at only 29 years. A Bordeaux architect who previously studied at the famous Southampton Solent University. He also distinguished himself on the Tour de France in Sailing which he ran in First Class 8, in Farr 30 and then in M34 winning on this last support the 201 edition.
This sailor has built his ideal unit, not hesitating to put his hands in the composite, and still seems surprised by its success! It is better understood why the Cape Cod, stiff to the canvas, is easy, smooth and fast. With 12 knots of wind and a small clap, the crew climbs to the rappel by sitting on the hillock, although they can stay in the comfort of the cockpit. The latter breathes luxury and good taste that encourages daydreaming. Everything is done to uncomplicate and simplify the life of the crew up to the hydraulic jack that allows you to lift the drifting ballast to approach a shore and stop there. In fact, all the usual manoeuvres are done around the helmsman so that the passengers only have to enjoy the scenery. There are few fittings, but nice pieces of stainless steel including the one that sparkles at the bow to maintain the long tip-out taken up by a sub-beard on the brion of the bow or the one found at the level of the bar, solid wood obviously. So many touches of brilliant details that mark the excellence of the Cape Cod’s finishes from deck to cockpit. Under the front beach hides an unsuspected cabin, but whose height under bars is very limited. You can lie there, the time of a nap at anchor before going back under sail and probably enjoy the sweetness of a summer navigation when the sun falls gently on the horizon.

Le Cape Cod ne manque pas d’allure et affiche clairement sa vocation de voilier de promenade rapide. Avec son grand cockpit tout en ellipse au confort plus que certain, il est surplombé par un gréement moderne très élancé. Car le Cape Cod, sous ses dehors traditionnels, est une unité du XXe siècle, un faux classique. Si la voûte de la poupe, le lattage en bois exotique du pont et cette ligne au ras de l’eau rappellent bien les canots d’antan, l’étrave bien droite et le gréement marconi trahissent la modernité du dessin de Clément Salzes qui a signé cette belle unité à seulement 29 ans. Un architecte bordelais qui a préalablement fait ses classes à la célèbre Southampton Solent University. Il s’est aussi distingué sur le Tour de France à la Voile qu’il a couru en First Class 8, en Farr 30 puis en M34 remportant sur ce dernier support l’édition 201.
Ce régatier s’est construit son unité idéale, n’hésitant pas à mettre les mains dans le composite, et semble aujourd’hui encore surpris par son succès ! On comprend mieux pourquoi le Cape Cod, bien raide à la toile, se déhale avec aisance, douceur et rapidité. Avec 12 nœuds de vent et un petit clapot, l’équipage monte au rappel en s’asseyant sur l’hiloire, quoiqu’il puisse rester dans le confort du cockpit. Ce dernier respire en effet le luxe et le bon goût qui incite à la rêverie. Tout est fait pour décomplexer et simplifier la vie de l’équipage jusqu’au vérin hydraulique qui permet de relever la dérive lestée pour s’approcher d’un rivage et y faire halte. D’ailleurs, toutes les manœuvres courantes reviennent autour du barreur de façon à ce que les passagers n’aient qu’à profiter du paysage. Il y a peu d’accastillages, mais de belles pièces d’inox dont celle qui scintille à l’étrave pour maintenir le long bout-dehors reprit par une sous-barbe sur le brion de l’étrave ou encore celle que l’on retrouve au niveau de la barre franche, en bois massif évidem-ment. Autant de touches de détails éclatants qui signent l’excellence des finitions du Cape Cod du pont à l’habitacle. Sous la plage avant se dissimule une insoupçonnable cabine cossue, mais dont la hauteur sous barrots est très limitée. On peut s’y allonger, le temps d’une sieste au mouillage avant de repartir sous voile et sans doute profiter au mieux de la douceur d’une navigation estivale lorsque le soleil tombe doucement sur l’horizon.
